Raie Thorique II

This sculpture was submitted for the « best craftsman using cork oak wood » contest in woodturning in 2018 and won the 2th place in a tie. It is made out of cork oak for the bodies, wrought-iron for the tails and cork crust for the base. To turn the bodies, I used the therming technique, turning all of them at once, one side at a time. Then I forged the iron and cold bent it for the tails, and stuck them on the sandblasted cork representing the ocean floor.
